On 19th Oct 2009, the board members of Channo Devi Foundation met in Kaldenkirchen, Germany. The agenda of the meeting was to review the progress so far and build up short term and long term plan for the foundation’s activities. So far all the work done in Mandothi has been due to the personal efforts of some of the people involved. However, it was felt that there needs to be a self sustaining program which should be made popular among the people of Mandothi. In the past few years, the projects of the foundation have been to support education of poor students, providing for infrastructure to help education and medical help for physically disabled people in Mandothi.

New Scholarship Program

Last year, the foundation sponsored the education of 7 students and it was decided to make these scholarships more popular among the students in Mandothi. It was decided to work towards increasing the number of scholarships for deserving students:
- whose parents cannot pay the school fee, the books and the travel expenses.
- whose education has promising success in the future due to their motivation.

Scholarship criteria for new students was decided as:

- exclusively to be looked in the final school class i.e. 11th and 12th class.
- For the period of coming two years the students will be helped for two professions, 5 year teacher training for girls and 2 year technical training for boys. At present these are the best trainings for girl’s and boy’s to find a job in Mandothi environment. In 2011 this criteria will be evaluated and if necessary corrected.

Aims of the foundation
Based on our experience of past few years’ projects, a need was felt to revisit the aims of foundation and make amendments to more effectively offer help to the people. The core objective of the foundation remains to help students in Mandothi in their education and help creating a better environment for the whole of Mandothi gradually. This will basically take place on two different levels. On one hand the basic needs are to be financed which make learning possible like drinking water, fans, sanitary facilities etc. On the other hand the students are helped individually in education and training. Depending on the needs of the students each scholarship will be decided upon the above criteria but also keeping in mind the students individual needs.
It was agreed that foundation activities for year 2010 must concentrate on selecting the future scholarship students and optimizing the scholarship award method. We will make the students, teachers and Principals aware about the scholarships and will select the students for the next year by April 2010.
